Moving Construction into the future
Although Norwood Construction has always focused on moving earth, we also know that it’s important to keep our attention on the future and technological advancements in the construction industry. Norwood Construction is a very technology oriented and diversified construction company.

Our experience and desire to stay on top of advancements in the construction industry has taught us how to meet the needs you will face in the excavation arena. Technological innovations have transformed Norwood Construction as well as the construction industry.  We are always trying to become more efficient which allows us to be more cost effective. The result has been that the cost of some construction-based services has actually been reduced over past decades.

Norwood Construction, Inc. has become more efficient because of a variety of factors including:
  • Equipment
  • Experience
Both of these factors make Norwood Construction a leading choice in the West Tennessee area.

Technology and Construction Equipment

Why is GPS (global positioning system) important? Simply put, it saves time and money. Although GPS technology has been around since the mid-1990s, it has recently taken off in the construction industry. Use of GPS technology in machine control grade work allows three-dimensional capability, enabling contractors to do a better job of building a subdivision or road.

According to the GPS manufacturer, a 3-D control system is one that can be used all the way through the job – at the beginning with clearing and scrubbing; while rough-grading; during utility installation; and when adding the base, stone and finish.

Another benefit of a GPS system that controls both elevation and slope is that it can make an average operator into a good operator, and a good operator even better. Not only does Norwood Construction have two decades experience in the construction industry, but we also utilize GPS in our construction equipment.

Laser Grading

Laser grading is the most cost effective way to grade surfaces that require strict tolerances to grade. Laser grading allows for extreme accuracy. By laser grading, you not only achieve the most accurate final grading possible (usually within 1/2 to 3/8 inch), but it saves the additional expense of extra materials to make up for the improper grading of sub grades.
Key Benefits of Laser Grading:
  • Eliminate standing water through improved drainage.
  • Return sports fields to top playing conditions.
  • Renovate and re-level infields to smoother, safer surfaces.
  • Grade to design specifications.
  • Reduce construction time and costs for installation.
  • Eliminate several days of work.
  • Reduce material costs.
At Norwood Construction, our laser-grading equipment is automatically controlled by combining hydraulic and electronic equipment that corrects itself several times per minute. Laser grading saves time and money that would have been otherwise spent on labor and materials.
